Catcher in the Rye...J.D. Salingers, The Catcher in the Rye, is one of the mostwell-known novels of the past fifty years. Its a story a action akid named Hold Caulfield who experiences some interestingthings and people. From having breakfast with a couple ofnuns, to hooking up with a prostitute, to getting kicked out ofschool, Holden handles each situation the better way he can.Some of the people Holden meets, he likes, but the type ofpeople Holden cans stand are the phonies. Holden met a hooking of phonies in his lifetime. Holden lived in a dorm that wasnamed after a shammer, he heard a phony playing a piano, andhe met his dates phony friend. Holden went to a boardingschool named Pencey Prep. There, Holden lived in theOssenburger Memorial Wing which is the name for the newdorms. The hall was only for juniors and seniors. The dormswere named after this guy named Ossenburger who alsowent to Pencey a great time ago. After Ossenburger got outof Pencey, he made a lot of money in the undertakingbusiness. After making a bundle of dough, Ossenburger gavesome of it to Pencey and thats why the new wing of thedorms are named after him. Then the next morning,Ossenburger gave a speech to the students of Pencey Prepabout how he was never hangdog when he was in somekind of trouble or something that Ossenburger would getright down on his knees and pray to God. Ossenburger kepton rambling bout how you should always pray to God and totalk to God wherever you were. Ossenburger said think ofhim as your buddy. Holden got a kick out of his speech.Holden could just see the humongous phony bastard... asking Jesusto send him a few more stiffs. Holden next went to this nightclub called Ernies. Holden was going there for a few drinks. still though it was so late, the club was jam-packed. Ernie,the piano player, was playing some tune that Holdencouldnt recognize. Ernie was putting all these high notes,show-offy ripples in the high notes, and a lot of other trickystuff that Holden thought was dumb. The crowd was goingcrazy for Ernie though, clapping and all that. Old Ernieturned around on his stool and gave this precise phony, humblebow. Holden thought Ernies snobbish attitude was sophony but Holden felt kind of sorry for Ernie. Holdendoesnt even think that Ernie knows when hes playing thetunes right or not.
